Illusion formed by Tomasz „Lipa” Lipnicki (lead vocals and guitar), Jurek „Jerry” Rutkowski (guitar), and Paweł Herbasch (drums) in Gdansk in 1992. Joined soon after Jarek Smigiel on bass guitar. Only a year after its formation, Illusion won the Marlboro Rock-In competition and performed at a variety of festivals – from Jarocin, Art Festival in Żarnowiec to Gampel in Switzerland. Across the nineties, Illusion released five albums that became firm favourites amongst fans, with hits like „Nóż”, „Vendetta” and „Cierń” among others. A prestigious Fryderyki nomination and three golden records were soon added to the band’s list of achievements. But by their seventh year, and despite being at the peak of their popularity, the band decided to part ways after treating their fans to 2.5 hours of their best tracks at the ‘Kwadratowa’ club in November 1999. Illusion fans had to wait for 8 years to see the band in concert again, but despite the long wait, 9 thousand people turned out at Hala Stulecia in Wroclaw in December 2008 to watch them perform. However, even this great atmosphere and warm welcome didn’t stop the band from taking another three-year break from performing. 2011 would be the next great year for Illusion fans – ‘The best of’ album was released, and the group performed at three concerts in the autumn (at Ergo Arena, Torwar and Spodek). To top it off, in 2012 the fans could now get their hands on a two-disc DVD recording of the Ergo Arena concert. It seemed like a come-back for Illusion was a long time coming… The news of Paweł, Jerry and Jarek meeting in 2012 to start creating new material was something that Illusion fans could have only dreamed of. Tomek Lipnicki, busy with Lipali at the time, re-joined his bandmates in Spring 2013, and 22 May 2016 marked the release of „Opowieści” – Illusion’s new studio recording. Their new promotional tour began, and by popular demand, the album was also released on limited edition vinyl to satisfy the most devoted fans. Illusion was back, and this time for good. In March 2018, „Anhedonia”- the band’s 7th studio recording - was announced, in celebration of 25 years since Illusion’s conception. Illusion’s uniquely powerful, raw sound – with its vibrant vocals and jagged guitar work – runs through the entire album.
